If you thought that the enhancements that the upcoming January update that Microsoft was preparing for the Windows Phone 7 operating system should bring would not be followed by other improvements in the near future, you might have been terrible wrong.

Allegedly, the upgrade prepped for Windows Phone 7 for early 2011 would be only one of the solutions that Microsoft has in store for the new mobile operating system for the next year, as the company would plan to detail a second update in February, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Although nothing was unveiled officially on the matter until now, WinRumors has it under good authority that the said update would indeed be made official in about two months from now on.

Sources familiar with the situation reportedly confirmed that the Mobile World Congress is the event we would all be waiting for to learn Microsoft's plans on the update roadmap for Windows Phone 7, as it would mark one year since the OS was first showcased to the world.

The first update the Redmond company plans for its new mobile platform (expected to be announced officially at CES in January) would be a significant one, while the second should be even more important.

Among the enhancement planned for the software solution, we can count better developer controls for applications, offering them the possibility to take advantage from APIs that would provide improved multi-tasking, in-app downloads and better customizations.

“The update includes some great new features for developers, Windows Phone 7 apps in 2011 will certainly become more interesting,” a source stated, WinRumors claims.

Additionally, Microsoft would plan to unveil a Silverlight update to Windows Phone 7 at the event, just as Brian Keller, Senior Technical Evangelist for Visual Studio application lifecycle management at Microsoft, hinted at recently.

The browser in Windows Phone 7 should receive a major overhaul as well, the news site notes. Whether these updates will arrive on devices in February, or they would be saved for Windows Phone 8, it remains to be seen.

For the time being. What's certain is that Windows Phone 7 would be set to taste two major updates in early 2011, and not a single one, as we were led to believe until now.
