Ever heard of second hand software? So far no one thought of software as an asset that can be sold after being used by companies or individuals. Microsoft licenses will be the first to be sold as second hand products, which is really the first time ever that a company agrees to sell used software.
Disclic started offering this week secondhand software licenses from downsizing companies to other businesses all with Microsoft's complete approval. It looks like the company was planning 18 months ago on launching such an offer. Now, businesses can think of software as a merchandise that can be sold at some
point, since it doesn't break any license user agreement.
This offer was possible due to a breach in the British insolvency laws and a clause in the Microsoft licenses which allows disused or unwanted volume licenses to be transferred. Of course, the second hand products will be offered with a major discount, somewhere between 20 and 50% below prices of any other authorized Microsoft reseller.
Microsoft representatives acknowledged knowing about this new distribution system and are completely supportive.
