Microsoft’s Surface RT remains the most popular Windows 8 tablet on the market right now, according to data provided by AdDuplex, but the tech giant is no longer the number one manufacturer of devices running its new OS.

Aside from these details, the latest figures published on the web a couple of days ago also reveal that Microsoft has already started the testing the second-generation Surface tablet, so the device now appears in some logs.

According to AdDuplex, there are two brand new products called Microsoft Corporation Surface 2 and Microsoft Surface with Windows 8.1 Pro, which are most likely updates for the Surface RT and the Pro, respectively.

“The first one definitely looks like a new device, but the second one theoretically could be just a change in what Surface Pro with Windows 8.1 installed reports. That said, as far as we can tell, the preview version of 8.1 didn’t change the reported string. So it’s either the RTM (or just a later build) that did that or it’s a new version of Surface Pro altogether,” AdDuplex wrote.

According to previous reports, the second-generation Surface is set to be unveiled by the end of the year, most likely in October together with Windows 8.1.
