Two days into the release of the latest stable build of Chrome 8 for Mac, Google has discovered a bug that affected the “stability” of the browser. The search giant decided to roll out an incremental update to address it as soon as possible.

While also busy watching over the Beta and Dev channels, the Google Chrome team’s top priority is, of course, the Stable branch, which wasn’t all that stable, apparently.

According to a recent post by Jason Kersey, a member of the development team, “The Chrome Stable channel has been updated to 8.0.552.231 for Mac. This release contains a stability fix for web forms.”

His post ends with the usual “If you find new issues, please let us know by filing a bug. Want to change to another Chrome release channel? Find out how.”

Earlier this week, Google updated the Chrome Dev channel to version 9.0.597.19 for all platforms, whereas the Beta and Stable channels were updated to version 8.0.552.224. Google said that its Chrome OS had also been updated.

The releases contained security fixes along with stability fixes, and other improvements, Kersey said in his older post.

A note about Google Chrome release channels and updates

Chrome boasts a release system with three distinct channels: Stable, Beta, and Developer preview, called the "Dev" channel.

The Stable channel is updated with features and fixes only after they are thoroughly tested in the Beta channel, while the Beta channel is be updated with stable and complete features from the Dev channel, where ideas get tested.
