Fans of “Sherlock,” a modern take on the iconic character from BBC One starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, should be happy to learn that their favorite show has gone into production.

“Sherlock” is one of the most favorably reviewed TV shows of our times but also a fan-favorite. It aired both at home in the UK and in the US with a slight delay.

Deadline reports that the stars of the series have had their first read-through this week, and will return on set on Monday to start shooting. Excellent news!

Moreover, two brand new directors are attached, after Paul McGuigan bowed out because of scheduling issues.

“I’ve confirmed that Jeremy Lovering will direct the first episode of the new Sherlock season. His feature debut, In Fear, which stars Downton Abbey‘s Allen Leech, premiered at Sundance in January,” Deadline writes.

“Also helming at least one episode this go-round is Colm McCarthy, who recently directed episodes of the BBC’s Doctor Who and Ripper Street,” adds the same media outlet.

“Sherlock” season 3 airs in late 2013 in the UK (a date hasn’t been set yet), and in 2014 in the US.
