fireCore has released an updated version of Seas0nPass for Apple TV jailbreakers on iOS 5.0.1 / 5.1.1. The hack is untethered, meaning users don’t have to re-connect their set-top-box to iTunes with each reboot.

“Today we are happy to release a brand new version of Seas0nPass that provides an untethered jailbreak of the latest 5.0.1 (iOS 5.1.1) software for the 2nd gen Apple TV,” reads the official announcement on the fireCore blog.

The firm credits renowned hacker Pod2g for the exploits, as well as other members of the Dream Team who appeared at this year’s Hack in the Box convention in Amsterdam.

“Massive thanks goes to @pod2g and Co. for the countless hours that went into making this new release possible,” says fireCore.

Seas0nPass on Apple TV Software 5.0.1 / 5.1.1 supports multiple plug-ins, including Couch Surfer, Last.fm, Maintenance, Media Player, NitoTV, Plex, RSS Feeds, Rowmote, Weather, and XBMC. Non working plug-ins include Overflow and Remote HD.

The tool also doesn’t support the third-generation Apple TV with 1080p video introduced earlier this year.

“Unfortunately Seas0nPass is not yet compatible with the new ATV3,” according to the developers of Seas0nPass. “Work is still ongoing and we'lll be sure to announce any and all news as soon as it becomes available. Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Google+ for up to the minute info.”

Seas0nPass is available as a free download from Seas0nPass.com. Mac users have version 0.8.5 (555) to download, whereas Windows PC owners can grab version 0.8.5.6546.

Users must ensure they’re using a silver (aluminum) Apple TV remote as the older, plastic Apple TV remotes (white) are missing the dedicated play/pause button and will not be supported by this jailbreak.

For Mac customers only, the 'remote control infrared receiver' option must be set to “off” through System Preferences --> Security --> General.
