A Jersey Coastguard plane sent on a mission to retrieve two missing fishermen has crashed with five people aboard.

The Mirror documented the accident taking place off the coast of Jersey, in the UK on Sunday.

They were looking for two men in a dinghy, who went missing somewhere between the island and France.

The rescue plane hit the ground on the north coast, in a wooded area, after 7:15 p.m. Fortunately, all rescue crew members on board made it out of the crash unscathed. The twin-engine propeller plane managed to land in a tree.

French authorities and Channel Islands first responder teams joined in the search operation and the two missing fishermen were found at about 11.30 p.m.

They have been suffering from hypothermia but are now safe, after being airlifted to Jersey General Hospital.
