A service with content created especially for kids

Last week, I told you how Google filtered the entire mature content and how the company decided to remove many sites from its index. This is extremely important if we think that sites could affect kids and other people that should be protected from viewing these webpages.

Of course, kids are internet users that must use a search engine but, if Google isn't safe anymore, what service should they use?

Yahoo provides a search engine exclusive for kids that is meant to be "a browsable, searchable directory of Internet sites for kids. Each site has been carefully checked by an experienced educator to ensure the content and links are appropriate for kids aged 7-12.

In addition to our directory, we also have a number of fun features, including Yahoo! Kids Games, Sports, and News pages, Movies, Animals, Science, and Dinosaurs, a Reference section, Parents' and Teachers' Guides, a Cool page, and lots more."

If you're not sure your kids can use this search engine safely, Yahoo says that "There are a whole bunch of reasons why you might find a site in here. Yahoo! Kids sites are cool, goofy, fascinating, fun, hysterical, philosophical, surprising, sedate, silly, seismic, popular, obscure, useful, and, ummmm... interesting.

For whatever reason. What gets plopped onto the REJECT list? Sites that are sleazy, slimy, snarly, paranoid, hateful, hideous, harmful, pornographic, or prejudiced. We don't like 'em. And neither do Yahoo! Kids."
