A new user interface included into Samsung Intrepid, courtesy of Microsoft, allows users to perform search queries into Bing using nothing more than simple voice commands. Although a full QUERTY mobile phone, Samsung Intrepid makes it easier for customers to not only find what they’re looking for on the Internet via Bing, but to also streamline various mundane tasks, such as writing a message or calling a certain contact, requiring only a single key to be touched. The technology that makes this possible, Tellme, comes from Microsoft – well, in fact from a company that the Redmond giant acquired in early 2007.

“Sprint Wireless announced their new Samsung Intrepid phone with a new voice user interface from Tellme. This new interface will allow you to search the Web with Bing by speaking your search query, compose a text message or even dial a contact by simply talking instead of typing,” revealed Dariusz Paczuski, senior director, Mobile.

In the video embedded at the bottom of this article you will be able to see a demonstration of the speech recognition capabilities offered by Tellme, not just in relation to Bring, but to other actions that can be performed on a Samsung Intrepid. With Tellme, Microsoft is offering a way for the steps necessary to do common tasks via a mobile phone to be cut down as much as possible. In this regard, the company noted that the Tellme phones were tailored perfectly to scenarios in which the user is multitasking.

“According to a recent study from Sanderson Studio, 40% of Smartphone usage occurs in multitasking scenarios where the user cannot offer their undivided attention to their phone. This is where the voice interface from Tellme will help simplify your life. Tellme makes many of the most popular phone functions easily accessible from a single button. Users just press the voice button on their phone and talk,” Paczuski added. “Searching, texting and dialing just got easier thanks to Tellme.”
