Penn feels that, after two failed marriages, he is left alone

Sean Penn opens up about his past marriage to Robin Wright, which he believes was a complete fraud.

In a recent interview with Esquire magazine, which will be included in their January print version, he claims he never felt love or the meaning of marriage.

“There is no shame in saying that that we all want to be loved by someone. [...] As I look back over my life in romance, I don't feel I've ever had that. I have been the only one that was unaware of the fraud in a few of these circumstances blindly,” he is quoted by the Christian Post saying.

Penn was married to pop queen Madonna from 1985 to 1989, and to Wright from 1996 to 2011. He has two children with the latter, 19-year-old son Hopper and 21-year-old daughter Dylan.

He claims that, by the end of the marriage, he realized he never knew his wife. He still wonders whether or not she was committed to him.

“When you get divorced, all the truths come out, you sit there and you go, 'What the [expletive] was I doing? What was I doing believing that this person was invested in this way?' Which is a fantastically strong humiliation in the best sense,” he says.

Hopper lived with Penn after his parents divorced, but has recently chosen to move in with his mother. The couple's daughter lives by herself. According to Huffington Post, he started feeling lonely when Hopper left.

“I could just go sit in the middle of the bed and watch TV at four in the afternoon, too. I don't have anything. […] My daughter's ... doing her thing, my son's with his mother,” Penn describes.
