Ned Stark was the first major character to die a shocking death on the HBO show

George R.R. Martin, the author of “Song of Ice and Fire” on which the HBO show “Game of Thrones” is based, built his house on a lake made of fans’ tears, tears shed in abundance whenever he killed off a major character. Take Ned Stark, for instance, who died early on in both books and TV show – but fans shouldn’t lose hope of seeing him again.

Ned Stark, aka inarguably the most honorable, honest, and noble man in the entire “GoT” universe (which explains why he was the first to die, of course), was beheaded at the request of King Joffrey Baratheon after he discovered that he was not the son of Robert Baratheon, but the product of incest between Queen Cersei and Jaimie Lannister, thus, not the rightful king.

Many fans of the series are still in mourning after him, but Sean Bean tells Vulture in a brand new interview, they should not lose hope of seeing him again – not yet at least.

In season 5, Bran, Ned’s son, will have fully developed his connection to the heart trees, which leaves the door open to the possibility of inserting flashbacks in the narrative – flashbacks that would also include his father, Ned.

Bean seems thrilled at the idea. In fact, he goes out of his way to convince Vulture to print his comment that he’s willing to return to the series if they’ll have him, because he wants to give them a “nudge” in the right direction.

“Yeah, yeah! And I’m [Bran’s] father, so that would be great fun! Just to go back to that for a while, it would be such fun to do. It would be great! It would be bizarre, but it would be great! So I guess if they’re going to do flashbacks, then yeah!” the actor tells the publication.

Another reason Bean might come back for flashbacks is because producers will have to explain Jon Snow’s parentage. So far, we’ve been told that he’s Ned’s bastard son with some random woman he slept with while away fighting with King Robert, but a new, very popular theory claims that Jon’s parents are actually more important to the story than Ned.

Fans believe (and have dug up plenty of evidence in support of this theory) that Jon is the son of Ned’s sister Lyanna Stark with King Rhaegar Targaryen, Daenerys’ brother, which makes him the rightful heir of the Iron Throne and the embodiment of “Song of Ice [Starks] and Fire [Targaryens].”

Apparently, Sean Bean believes this theory is right – and he even goes on the record saying this much.

“And that should happen, shouldn’t it? I’ve definitely got some unfinished business that needs to be resolved there. I’m obviously not Jon Snow’s dad. And you need that to be revealed at some point, don’t you? So Bran would kind of be the one having the flashback, and he would see Ned praying, right? And revealing those things? You never know what those guys are going to do with that. It’s got to be something special. But I’m into that. I certainly would be into that,” the actor says.
