A few days ago, the news broke that a Northern fur seal living in captivity at the New England Aquarium had given birth to a healthy pup.

As reported at that time, the pup's birth went smoothly, and it only took a few hours for the baby seal and its mother to become inseparable.

Hence the fact that keepers had trouble getting close enough to the pup to examine it.

Recent news on the topic says that Ursula, the seal pup's mother, has finally agreed to let zoo employees have a close look at her offspring. It was thus discovered that the pup is a girl.

What's more, she is a fairly plump creature. Apparently, she already weighs about 11 pounds (almost 5 kilograms), sources say.

The seal up is to remain hidden from public view for several weeks to come. She will probably make her public debut this coming fall.
