Seagate develops portable hard disk drive featuring a certain security feature that will allow users to recover data in case anything may leave it corrupted or otherwise lost, though this will only be usable once.

Seagate has been in the HDD business for many years and, some time ago, even expanded its market share by means of buying the HDD business of another.

While no longer the market leader (Western Digital now has that position), Seagate does, nonetheless, possess much prestige in this field, understandable seeing as how a new HDD comes out on an almost weekly basis.

This once, it is the GoFlex Turbo line of portable models that has expanded, though one might say it the news is more of an update, since the new security feature is what really demanded the new press release.

The company now offers 500 GB and 750 GB HDDs, both designed with the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface, accompanied by the SafetyNet feature, which will, for one time only, recover data in case of loss or corruption.

"With this new GoFlex Turbo performance drive, it is our aim to provide more peace of mind for the people who choose Seagate to back up and store their valued digital assets," said Patrick Connolly, vice president and general manager of Seagate's retail product group.

"When our products are used as a backup to a primary system or even as supplemental storage, people should know that they can get a further layer of assurance that their data will be there when they need it.

In addition to USB 3.0, the drives have eSATA/FireWire 800, thanks to an optional interface adapter. Prices are of $119.99 and $139.99, respectively.

"Seagate is now bringing to market a solution that shelters our customers, who purchase the GoFlex Turbo with SafetyNet, from the potential thousand-dollar cost of recovering lost files. Seagate is providing a solution that will no longer cost thousands of dollars to recover files. SafetyNet DRS provide an extra layer of protection for your content," Connoly stated.
