The libraries are still stored in the Cloud, though, not locally

Set-top boxes are pretty standard pieces of equipment: media players that aren't really media players, but access points that owners can use to access TV broadcasts and services like Internet TV.

Certain analysts claim that Roku is the most used streaming media player in the US. Considering that it has 1,500 channels, I suppose that is, at the very least, possible. Even if the bold claim is not a true reflection of reality, Roku shows up in the media enough to suggest it is up there with the best of them, even if not necessarily in the lead.

Thus, even if it does not own the Roku itself, Seagate has decided to add a new capability to those owners of the Roku streaming player who also own a Seagate Personal Cloud NAS: media library storage and access via the Seagate Media Channel.

The new feature will allow you to instantly browse and access content stored in the Seagate Central personal cloud network-attached storage device if you have one. Also, the feature will extend to the Seagate Wireless Plus portable hard disk drive.

In addition to checking what videos, music files and photos you have, the Seagate Media Channel will provide cover art for them (when available). Photos will be shown as thumbnails, and song titles will appear on music files, assuming they were coded and saved in an appropriate manner and format beforehand.
