Green group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is now accusing employees of a seafood plant in Maine of being horrifically cruel to lobsters and crabs.

The organization says that it is in possession of gruesome undercover footage that shows workers at Linda Bean's Maine Lobster tearing off these crustaceans' Tails and claws while the latter are still alive and aware of what is happening to them.

According to Ecorazzi, it is common practice for these workers to impale the lobsters and crabs by slamming their heads into spikes.

As far as PETA is concerned, these ways of treating are not just shocking, but also illegal. Specifically, they go against Maine's cruelty-to-animals statute.

“There’s no excuse for the blatant and, we would argue illegal, cruelty going on at this slaughterhouse when there are alternate slaughter methods that rapidly stun and kill these animals,” PETA member Dan Paden says.

Furthermore, “These animals are dying agonizing deaths at this facility.”

By the looks of it, the organization is determined to file a complaint with local authorities, who they hope will take immediate measures and compel the seafood plant to treat the crustaceans in a more humane manner.
