Come in wattages of 860W and 1000W and have up 92% efficiency

There was a time when 80Plus Gold certification was the highest attained rank of PSUs on the efficiency scale, but 80Plus Platinum made short work of that, thanks to products like the two items that SeaSonic just announced.

There aren't many 80Plus Platinum power supplies on the market, but the few that exist cast a long and wide shadow over all other PSUs.

Even 80Plus Gold PSUs have to pay their respects, so to speak, even if they are, ultimately, sold in greater numbers than the few Platinum products.

Regardless, 80Plus Platinum power supplies still make it into the systems of enthusiasts with the willingness to invest into low power costs.

The company that will offer a pair of such PSUs, starting next month (November, 2011) is SeaSonic, or so the web says.

One of them works at 860W, while the other has an output of 1000W (1kW).

The duo have the same efficiency of up to 92%, plus 99% active PFC (Power Factor Correction) and very good DC-to-DC conversion.

Some may remember that the approach of these two was revealed back in March.

Once they start shipping, prospective buyers will have to part with 209 Euro ($286.9) and 249 Euro ($341.85), respectively (keep in mind that the US prices might not reflect these exchange rate estimates).

Other specifications of the PSUs include Grade A 105 degrees Celsius Japanese capacitors, a dual-sided PCB (printed circuit board) layout, Easy Swap connectors (one on each), gold-plated terminals and Sanyo Denki San Acer fans.

Speaking of fans, they can be set at Fanless, Silent and Cooling modes (fanless basically means the spinners won't move at all until the load is high enough to demand it).

For an example of another “fanless” PSU, one can go check out the Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybird PSU Series.
