You can even adopt a sea turtle while you’re at it

Seaturtle.org, a site that encourages people to help save endangered sea turtles, is offering an iPad mini tracker tool which points you to the nearest store that has Retina models in stock.

As Apple struggles to make enough Retina iPad minis for everyone, supplies remain constrained at most of the company’s retail stores.

Enter seaturtle.org’s iDevice Availability Notifier, a web-based tool that asks only for your zip code and serves up a list of locations where you’ll find a tablet waiting for you to buy it. You can also get email notifications with availability.

In an attempt to keep Apple off its back (as the company is known to issue takedown notices for such services), the people at Seaturtle say, “we do not scrape the Apple website. We are using a publicly accessible XML service on the Apple site to determine iDevice availability.”

They’re also asking visitors to consider supporting global sea turtle research and conservation and make a donation, or even adopt a turtle.
