Tokyo headquartered, Japanese company Scythe has just announced the new “Kabuto 2” processor cooling system. The company’s new cooling solution features 6 heatpipes and weighs in at 695 grams.

At 24.5 pounds, the new Scythe Kabuto processor cooler is reportedly 5 percent lighter than the previous version and the six heatpipes feature the same usual 6-millimeter diameter.

We have absolutely no idea why cooling companies keep on using 6-millimeter heatpipes instead of using the 8-millimeter type.

The 8mm heatpipes have much better cooling efficiency and the simple fact is that Scythe could have used just five 8mm heatpipes instead of using six 6mm ones.

The cooler would probably have been lighter and the performance would have been higher.

This type of cooler is best suited for cases that lie flat on the desk and it’s not quite the best solution for a tower case.

The new Kabuto cooler is compatible with Intel’s LGA775/1155/1156/1366/2011 sockets and with AMD’s AM2 (+) / AM3 (+) / FM1/FM2 sockets.

Pricing I slated at $51 (42 EUR).
