Script of the Day: NicEdit

NicEdit is a JavaScript tool for easily formatting text inside a textarea with the help of a toolbar full of various controls and buttons, similar in design to the old Microsoft Word interface.

NicEdit allows users to style text the way they need it to be displayed, without having to learn either HTML or CSS to do so.

The editor is framework agnostic and can be used as a stand-alone or integrated into more complex GUIs, for usage inside CMSs, admin dashboards, forums, e-commerce sites, etc.

Various facets of the NicEdit interface can be turned on or off for a lighter or heavier package, while new features can be added via the provided plugin system.

For maximum interoperability, NicEdit output is standards compliant. The editor can also save content via AJAX to prevent page refreshes.
