Deprecation Checker checks WordPress code against various standards and suggests alternatives for deprecated functions.

Developing for WordPress ain't that hard if you know PHP and are able to make your way around the WordPress Codex (documentation). Because of this, it's certainly much easier to code WordPress sites than it is with Drupal, Joomla or any other CMS.

One of the most attractive features for coders is its linear evolution of functions. Developers can actually see how a function has evolved between WordPress versions and keep their code updated to the latest version.

While sniffing around the Codex might take some crucial time a programmer would certainly use more wisely otherwise, it still must be done if you want to keep your WordPress code functional with the latest version of the WP platform.

The Deprecation Checker plugin implements such a principle. It scans a theme and plugin's source code and presents the developer with a list of deprecated functions and possible alternatives that they can use to replace the deprecated code with. Just what a developer needs if he's pressed by time or other more important issues.

The plugin is available on the WordPress plugin repository, making it easier to install via WP's built-in plugin installation tool.
