Amidst all the speculations that Jennifer Lopez and hubby Marc Anthony are being lured by Tom Cruise into Scientology, the diva opens up about the people with whom she met and who were fervent Scientologists and about the way the public tends to react negatively against said 'religion'.

Ever since she attended Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' luxurious wedding ceremony in Italy, the tabloids and the press in general have shown a great amount of interest in what concerns her religious beliefs. As the friendship between her and the couple became stronger by the day, rumors abounded about her wanting to ditch her Catholic origins for the popular and trendy cult.

At first, it was reported that she was taking Scientology classes, along with her best friend Leah Remini, also a Scientologist, but that Marc was opposing her decision because of his strict Catholic upbringing. Although Lopez firmly denied any allegations of this type, they never ceased making the headlines.

Fed up with false stories, JLo came to the rescue by speaking for the first time candidly about her interests in the cult. She told NBC that not only is she not interested in converting but also that people should not be so quick to judge Scientologists by the mere fact that they believe in something else than the rest of the world.

'I'm not a Scientologist, I was raised Catholic. But it's funny the way people come at it. To me it's so strange. These are some of the best people I've ever met in my life. You know, they're just lovely, genuine people. They way they ask is such a, "Uh, are you [a Scientologist]?' It's such a negative thing and I just don't see it that way.', the diva told the interviewer.

However, even if she is not to be lured into a totally different system of beliefs, that doesn't mean that she can't bring herself to understand it. According to her own words, she herself has a Scientologic background, given by the fact that her father is also one of the followers. 'My dad has been a Scientologist for 20 years. He's the best man that I know in my life and so, it's weird to me that people want to paint it in a negative way.', she explained.

Looks like Tom has no chance of making Jennifer change her mind. That only leaves the Beckhams but, according to media reports, Victoria is going to make his job even harder because she is too 'cheap' to give her money to the church.
