South-Korean researcher Hwang Woo-suk declined the accusations which said that he falsified the results of his studies on stem cells, AP informed.

"Our research team made patient-specific embryonic stem cells and we have the technology to produce them," Hwang told a news conference.

The article on Hwang Woo-suk's results published in the Science journal showed how individual stem cell colonies were created for 11 patients through cloning, this discovery being regarded by the scientific community as a great step forward towards treating hard to cure conditions.

Hwang Woo-suk, 53, became a target for criticisms after admitting last month that he used eggs from some of his researchers, a practice condemned by the scientific community.

"Being too focused on scientific development, I may not have seen all the ethical issues related to my research. We needed a lot of ova [eggs] for the research but there were not enough ova around", Dr Hwang said.

"I again sincerely apologize for having caused concern at home and abroad."

Yesterday, Roh Sung-il, the administrator of the hospital where the researches took place and co-author of the study, said that Hwang had admitted fabricating the results.

In addition to that, CNN writes that Roh accused the researcher of contaminating the stem cell lines.

"He's avoiding taking the responsibility that he should take," Roh said.

According to AP, the South-Korean government has financed Hwang Woo-suk's researches with $24.7 million.
