The first Release Candidate version of the Live edition of Scientific Linux 6.4, a recompiled Red Hat Enterprise Linux put together by various labs and universities around the world, is now available for download and testing.

The Live CD version of Scientific Linux usually arrives after the main distribution is launched. This means that it will share most of its features.

“In order to squeeze the LiveCD under 700MB, I had to remove the following packages: spice-xpi, system-config-printer, libsmbclient and foomatic. In addition, there is a testing version for a NONPAE LiveCD available,” stated Urs Beyerle, one of the Scientific Linux developers.

A complete list of changes and updates can be found in the official announcement for the regular distribution. Download Scientific Linux 6.4 RC1 LiveCD right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
