The first Release Candidate version of Scientific Linux 6.5, a recompiled Red Hat Enterprise Linux put together by various labs and universities around the world, is now available for download and testing.

It's been quite a while since the release of the previous Scientific Linux distro, but a new one has arrived, even if it's just in the form of a Release Candidate.

According to the changelog, OpenAFS has been updated to version 1.6.5.1 from openafs.org, alpine has been updated to a more recent version, 2.10-3, various bug fixes and updates for yum-autoupdate have been implemented, and the obsolete augeas lense has been removed,

A complete list of changes and updates can be found in the official announcement for the regular distribution. Download Scientific Linux 6.5 RC1 right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
