Scientific Linux, a recompiled Red Hat Enterprise Linux put together by various labs and universities around the world, has reached version 6.2 on January 10th.

Scientific Linux 6.2 Beta 2 should be installed from scratch because, most likely, a "yum" upgrade to this version will not work.

The developers of Scientific Linux have updated a number of important packages, such as OpenAFS, livecd-tools, liveusb-creator, Adobe repositories for the x86_64 tree, Python 2.6, and tkinter.

Also, the redhat-rpm-config package was modified in order to recognize Scientific Linux 6.2 Beta 2 as valid for distribution tag generation.

Download Scientific Linux 6.2 Beta 2 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a beta release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
