Pat Riehecky proudly announced last night, April 24th, the immediate availability for download of the Scientific Linux 5.8 operating system. Scientific Linux 5.8 is now based on the code from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8 and it brings upstream features, as well as internal changes and improvements.
It is now powered by Linux kernel 2.6.18, and includes updated packages like ipw2100-firmware, Sun Java 1.6.0, OpenAFS, Anaconda installer, Apache, GDM, and much more.
