In sync with Red Hat Enterprise 4 Update 8

Available on mirrors worldwide from a week ago, Scientific Linux 4.8, based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 8, was officially announced last evening by Connie Sieh and Troy Dawson. The new release comes with major improvements and package updates. "Scientific Linux 4.8 has been released. We want to thank all those who have contributed packages and time, helping us build and test this release. Scientific Linux 4.8 doesn't have any exciting new features, it is just a nice, stable release. Scientific Linux release 4.8 is based on the rebuilding of RPMS out of SRPMS's from Enterprise 4, including Update 8. It also [contains] all errata and bugfixes up until July 20, 2009." - the Scientific Linux team said in the official release announcement.
