Scientific Linux 4.7 Released

Based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.7

Scientific Linux 4.7, based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 7, was released last night with major improvements and package updates. "Scientific Linux 4.7 has been released. We want to thank all those who have contributed packages and time, helping us build and test this release. Scientific Linux 4.7 doesn't have any exciting new features, it is just a nice, stable release. Scientific Linux release 4.7 is based on the rebuilding of RPMS out of SRPMS's from Enterprise 4, including Update 7. It also [includes] all errata and bugfixes up until September 03, 2008." - said the Scientific Linux team in the official release announcement.

The following tools were added, compared to Red Hat Enterprise 4:

· 915resolution (a tool to modify Intel graphics chipsets’ video BIOS)
· alpine (a tool for reading, sending, and managing electronic messages)
· apt
· cfitsio (Flexible Image Transport System support)
· Cluster Suite & GFS
· dropit
· FUSE (Filesystem in userspace)
· Graphviz (Graph Visualization Tools)
· IceWM (Simple window manager)
· Intel wireless firmware (Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 and 2200 driver)
· JAVA 1.5
· ksh
· madwifi
· ndiswrapper
· Multimedia codecs (gstreamer, lame, id3tag, mad, etc)
· nedit (GUI text editor)
· NumPy (Numeric replacement)
· OpenAFS
· R (language and environment for statistical computing and graphics)
· r1000 (RealTek Ethernet controllers driver)
· Tidy
· yum & Yumex
· Tidy

The following tools were updated, compared to Red Hat Enterprise 4:

· anaconda
· comps
· glade2
· Apache
