Even if most of the drivers are looking forward to a NASCAR experience, Formula One champion and number 2 in the standings doesn't seem to see what all the fuss is about. After Juan Pablo Montoya convinced himself - it took him quite some time - that the Great Circle is something he can't handle and Jacques Villeneuve seems to agree with the Colombian. It was about time,
since neither his boss, nor the Grand Prix Drivers Association (GPDA) didn't seem to like him a great deal.
As for Schumacher, the 7-time world champion feels that Formula One is the most exciting racing competition in the world. And he wanted to make it very clear to everyone involved in racing that NASCAR is, and most certainly will not be, a future challenge for the German. More, he stated that the North-American race is nothing but "boring", and driving in ovals is not quite his style.
"What do you see in Nascar? What is exciting about it? I can't see it running around in ovals. I just don't see the challenge in it for me. Personally, I wouldn't do it", said the German. Ruling out a move to NASCAR might be a good sign for Ferrari. The Italian team is looking to convince Michael of extending his contract for another year, since his current run in the season is getting better and better. After failing to beat Alonso in the last month, the German managed to close the gap on the Spaniard at Indianapolis - one of the most important NASCAR circuits (!) - after Ferrari's first 1-2 in almost a year. Alonso only managed the 5th.
If Schumacher is going to leave the Italian team, Ferrari might sign Finland's Kimi Raikkonen. The McLaren driver is still delaying his answer - much like Schumacher - and is yet to decide whether he will stay with Mercedes or leave. His postponement comes a little awkward, since the specialists say he is waiting for Schumi's answer. If the German goes, he'll sign for Ferrari. If not, a move to Renault seems like the best step for the Fin.
