After his third consecutive win of the Formula One season - its 5th
overall - Michael Schumacher is convinced that the title is not that far away. After all, he used to state that he is still fighting for the championship when trailing Alonso more than 25 points in the standings. With 6 races to go, the gap is now only 11 points, and that sure seems like a piece of cake for Ferrari, given its last performances in Formula One.
And both Schumacher and Jean Todt feel that the pressure is now starting to get Alonso into trouble. Not only that he didn't win a race in the last 3 GPs, but the Spaniard also failed to enter the top 3 two of these last 3 races. Basically, the only reason why Alonso should feel good about himself is for staying in the race and not crashing out. He is still holding an 11-point advantage in the championship race, but that should not make him too confident in his chances.
"We have had the edge on the other guys for three races and we have to use this situation as long as we can. The test ban doesn't really help if you are in trouble because you can't really sort out those troubles. We have to keep this advantage as long we can. What is great is that we have been able to do a performance like that in my home country. I am very pleased about this and proud at the same time. I had a great emotion on the parade lap with the German fans - they are really fantastic. To have a race like this and to gain further points in the championship is just ideal", said the 7-times world champion.
In the meantime, the world of Formula One is still waiting for a decision from Michael Schumacher concerning his retirement from the sport. Ferrari is not only confronted with the German leaving the "Scuderia", but also with Jean Todt's contract expiring by the end of this year. Still, the Frenchman will most likely continue with Ferrari. We can't say the same about Schumacher, though. Monza is the place where Ferrari promised to announce its team for the 2007 season. That is on the 10th of September.
