Although everybody speculates on his leaving Formula One at the end of this season, Michael Schumacher told the Italian media to wait until Sunday afternoon. Depending on his result at Monza, the German will either announce his retirement from the Great Circle, or please his fans for one more season.
"Bild" newspaper announced, earlier this week, that the 7-times world champion already decided to step out of "the ring". Still, Ferrari denied these allegations and Schumacher avoided to talk about it at the press conference before the Italian GP.
"Just
before we start, because obviously a lot has been written and said in the press, I think that it is very obvious and very clear what we have communicated for many months. We will make a statement in Monza and this statement will be on Sunday. There is no point to ask any questions about it or get into it. Sunday is when it will be made clear and unfortunately not before", said the German at the beginning of the press conference.
Obviously disturbed by all the rumors that have been going on in the European media, the German was also advised by his closest friends inside the Great Circle to quit. Many argued that this will be the closest he can get to winning another world title and Ferrari should also think about the future - since Kimi Raikkonen may be the perfect replacement for Schumi.
As for his title rival, Fernando Alonso is convinced that Schumacher will give it his all to win another championship. Why? We all know that a great champion wants to get off the stage as a king. And these last 4 races might be Schumacher's last chance to make that happen.
"I think Michael will concentrate on the race and on the championship. He made already the decision whenever, one month ago or one week ago, to stay or to go. That will not change too much his motivation or performance in the weekend, or the rest of the year. It is the same for Ferrari. We all want to win; Renault want to win, and Ferrari want to win -- Michael and me. It will not change anything", said Alonso, according to Eurosport.
The Spaniard is currently the leader of the title race in drivers' championship, while Schumacher is trailing Alonso 12 points with 4 more races to go.
