A 15-year-old schoolgirl who suffers from alopecia, a disorder which involves the loss of hair from the head and the body, has covered her head in sweets and has become a human Easter egg in an effort to raise awareness of the rare autoimmune disease.

Joelle Amery from Stanmore, North London, became an internet sensation last year, after she posted a video of her first pop song, “Big In LA,” on YouTube. Her clip gathered more than 200,000 views on the video sharing site.

The teenager was diagnosed with the hair condition at the age of eight, while she was still in primary school, and endured bullying from schoolmates, who used to call her “cancer girl.” The experience was so traumatizing for her that she would never show up in public without one of her wigs.

However, she found the courage to show the world her real appearance when she saw her clip was so well received by the public.

“Alopecia has been the breaking of me, but also the making of me,” she told the Daily Mail last year. “When I lost all my hair, other people couldn’t understand that I was exactly the same person -  but I just looked different.”

Now, Joelle became a sweet egghead after covering her bald scalp in chocolate and confectionery in a bid to raise awareness of her disease, alopecia universalis, which reportedly has an incidence of 0.0005% (1 in 200,000) and affects approximately 100,000 people in the United Kingdom.

According to Metro, the girl cooled her head with frozen peas before having it covered with chocolate and hundreds of sweets.

“I thought it was a fun thing to do for Easter,” Joelle said.
