A school in Bellingham, Washington state has stepped outside the box in the weather-related school cancellation department.

Officials at the Bellingham Christian School have announced giving students a day off because the weather is just too nice not to.

“Typically we cancel school for bad weather, so why not have some fun and cancel school due to fabulous weather?” school Principal Bob Samson explains in a statement conveyed by Q13 Fox.

The school initiative is meant to create a joyful studying environment and let everyone have a day to enjoy spring.

“To celebrate an exceptionally nice day of the spring season, to promote positive school culture and just for fun, Bellingham Christian School has decided to cancel school due to good weather,” the statement reads.

The school board initially decided to have May 2 as their day off, but mentioned being open to miss May 3, all depending on the weather.

“If tomorrow, May 2nd, has clear skies in the morning and if weather.gov has a forecast of 63 degrees or higher, we will cancel the school for the whole day due to good weather.

“Wahoooo! If we don’t cancel school on the 2nd, we will look to the forecast for the 3rd and cancel school Friday,” Principal Samson says.

The school has not canceled a lot of schooldays during the winter, as they expected to. Therefore, the teachers have made out their schedules to accommodate missed classes. In addition to that, staff also get to enjoy their day off.

“Since we’ve had no snow days, we are able to make this cancellation and still have more than enough state allocated hours for the year.

“There are so many heavy things that go in our world, it’s nice to celebrate, relax and share joy with many,” Samson adds.
