A couple of days ago, Schoep, the arthritic dog whose story touched hundreds of hears around the world, passed away. Owner John Unger announced his death on Facebook yesterday afternoon.

“I breathe but I can't catch my breath. Schoep passed yesterday. More information in the days ahead,” he wrote.

The message was accompanied by a photo of a lonesome paw print.

20-year-old Schoep became worldwide known after a photographer snapped a picture of him floating in a lake, in the arms of his owner, and posted it online. The picture went viral in just a few days.

As reported at that time, John used to go swimming with Schoep hoping to ease some of the pain the dog was experiencing because of his arthritis.

Shorly after John went public with the news of Schoep's death, condolences started pouring in. One can only hope that John will find some comfort in them.
