Tim Schafer, the leader of the development team at Double Fine, believes that video games that are funded using Kickstarter are under a lot of pressure to deliver quality experiences to players, more than traditional releases.

He tells GamesIndustry.biz that, “It's such a great, positive thing for us, and being able to be funded by our fans opens so many doors for us to do original, creative things that we just wanted to live up to.”

Double Fine has launched Act 1 of its Broken Age title, which uses classic adventure game experiences and tells the story of two different but connected characters.

The company will deliver a second act later during the year, although no official launch date has been offered.

Double Fine is also working on another Kickstarter-funded title, called Massive Chalice, and is also currently prototyping four new concepts that were created during the Amnesia Fortnight game jam.
