Ever since the nasty split between Melanie Brown, aka Mel B, aka Scary Spice, and Eddie Murphy, things have only gotten worse. After breaking up with the singer during a national television show and refusing to acknowledge that the baby she was carrying was his, Eddie has moved on with his life: he severed all ties with the woman who still claims was to be his future wife, met somebody else and even got married. Mel B, too, found love in some other place, with another man, but there still are things that tie her to America's favorite funnyman: her name is Iris Angel and she was born in April this year.
Because Eddie kept telling the media that he was not the father of Melanie's child, even claiming at one point that, while they still were together, she also had affairs with other men, he had to submit to a paternity test which, of course, only came to prove that he was, indeed, the real father. Also at that time, the two agreed on an alimony that the actor would pay monthly to Mel, a thing that he forgot the very next second, says Mel.
In a press conference held the other day, Melanie and attorney Gloria Allred announced that they plan to take the whole thing to court because Eddie still refuses to act like any other parent would and has not yet paid a single dime for Angel's support. "We've had communication with his attorney, and now we're moving forward. Murphy was promising to do the right thing, but to date he has not done the right thing. Mr. Murphy can have all the babies he chooses to have, but his responsibility needs to be to his own children. [Brown] is seeking sole physical and legal custody.", Brown's attorney said.
With all the concern for the baby, Allred couldn't help but take a swing at Murphy, saying that, while he does seem to find both money and time for other people, he can't do the same for his own flesh and blood. Ouch! 'He bought a big diamond ring for his new fianceé [Tracey Edmonds]. It is nice to be generous to others, but what about his own baby?', the high-powered attorney said.
Apparently, the strong point of the case, says Allred, will consist in that both Melanie and Eddie planned the baby and even talked about getting married after it was born. So, no, it was not an accident that Melanie got pregnant, a thing reinforced by the singer herself, who added: 'Angel is my baby and Eddie's. She will always know that she was planned and wanted by both of us, but I want her to know that she has two parents who desire to be responsible for her during her life and who love her so much that they want to be a part of it.'
During the same press conference, Melanie added that all details of the custody case will be kept under wraps because she doesn't want her baby to be hurt in any way by making them public. So far, no hearing date has been scheduled, so stay tuned here for more info.
