In what is an unexpected move, the usually very private Scarlett Johansson is opening up about her personal life in a brand new interview with Vogue magazine, in which, among other things, she's also promoting her role in Marvel's “The Avengers.”

Scarlett says she still hasn't gotten over the divorce from Ryan Reynolds, which came as a shock precisely because they had never made a public spectacle of their romance and / or marriage.

Privacy was what they valued most about it and even Scarlett was surprised when people showed such interest in their decision to get separated, one that was the hardest she ever had to make.

To this day, she still hasn't come to terms with the reality of the divorce, saying that there were many times she wished she could just pick up some sort of guidebook to help her deal with the pain.

Sadly, no such thing exists.

“It was horrible. Of course it’s horrible. It was devastating. It really throws you. You think that your life is going to be one way, and then, for various reasons or whatever, it doesn’t work out. This was something I never thought I would be doing,” the actress tells Vogue.

“And there’s no way to navigate it. Nobody can give you the right answer. It’s never anything you want to hear. It’s a very lonely thing. It’s like the loneliest thing you’ll ever do, in some way,” she adds.

Even though she never imagined her marriage wouldn't work out, she has no regrets about it. In retrospect, it was her most beautiful relationship until then and she lived with Ryan moments she will always cherish.

“It was a beautiful thing. The falling in love and getting married and making that commitment... I think it’s nice to know that you’re capable of loving somebody in that way. I think it’s a rare opportunity,” she says.

“I don’t feel on the other side of it completely, but it gets better. It’s still there. More than anything, it’s just that not having your buddy around all the time is weird. There’s no rule book. I think it’s just time,” Scarlett adds.

In the same interview, the stunning actress also talks a bit about Sean Penn, whom she dated for a while after the split from Ryan.

She still refuses to put a label on the relationship, but explains it ended on excellent terms: Sean is a man she will always look up to and respect, an admirable human being whom she's happy to have met and spent time with.
