One of the most talked about moments at the Oscars 2015 last Sunday, surprise winners and acceptance speeches not included, was John Travolta’s touchy-feely mood, which manifested itself in a walk-by awkward kiss and side hug with Scarlett Johansson, and an equally awkward moment on stage with Idina Menzel.

A publicist for the actor claimed that the Idina moment was rehearsed, and it’s now Scarlett Johansson’s turn to speak up in his defense.

Get your mind out of the gutter, don’t allow yourself to be misled

All commentary online about John Travolta’s antics at the Oscars were preceded by adjectives like “creepy” and “inappropriate,” “weird” or “awkward.” Most people who saw the Oscarcast and /or the photos of both interactions with the 2 women deemed Travolta a fool for embarrassing himself this way.

“Creepy John Travolta” was turned into a meme within minutes of the awards gala, and many are still having fun online at his expense.

They’re wrong to do that, Scarlett says in a statement to the AP, because there was “nothing strange, creepy or inappropriate about John Travolta.” What we saw that made us think there was was just a photo taken out of context and shared online by bloggers and celebrity publications looking to provide for a viewership always thirsty for scandal.

What we saw was misleading and offensive towards Travolta, who happens to be a good friend of Scarlett’s. She didn’t mind being ambushed and kissed on the red carpet, while she was posing for cameras, because John is always a pleasure to be around.

People need to take their mind out of the gutter and not allow themselves to be tricked into believing whatever the entertainment media comes up with, because, at times (as is the case here), there is simply nothing scandalous going on.

If you doubt her words that the encounter wasn’t even remotely as weird as it seemed in still pictures, you will find a video of it embedded at the end of the article.

John Travolta can’t catch a break (at the Oscars)

Travolta also laughed off all reports that he was being creepy towards Idina Menzel by repeatedly touching her face on stage during their Oscars presenting gig, but he didn’t say what that was all about.

Should he get the benefit of the doubt from you on both instances, he is still having the worst couple of years as far as his Oscars appearances go.

All this talk about how “creepy” he is comes on the heels of his now-infamous flub of Idina Menzel’s name at the 2014 edition of the gala, when he introduced her on stage to perform as Adele Dazeem.

In the same interview in which he laughed off talk of being too touchy towards the singer, John claimed that he messed up her name because he’d crossed paths with Goldie Hawn backstage and he was still starstruck and dazzled by her beauty.
