She’s considered one of the most beautiful and hot women in showbiz, but Scarlett Johansson would rather we paid more attention to her work than her body. Speaking with Barbara Walters for ABC and her annual Most Fascinating People list for 2014, the actress scoffs at compliments that she’s a sex symbol.

You can see her entire interview with Walters in the video below: Scarlett also talks about motherhood and her career, and strives to rubbish misconceptions that she’s just a pretty face.

She’s said it before and she will say it again: she’s not an object of desire and doesn’t want to be considered in this light, she is an actress and she wants to be appreciated for her work.

No such thing as a perfect body

Scarlett Johansson is among the original “curvy” beauties, with her amazing figure getting a lot of attention at a time when a stick-thin figure was still considered the only beauty ideal possible. To paraphrase Barbara, she has the kind of body that men love and women would love to have.

Still, all this attention is somewhat vexing for Scarlett, mostly because she doesn’t like being put up on a pedestal when she has her own insecurities to struggle with, just like everyone else.

“It's an okay body, I guess. I wouldn't say it's particularly remarkable, though. I don't like my thighs, my midsection, but... I'm not going to complain! I got thighs and a midsection, so I'm happy,” she says, adding later on that she doesn’t “know what it means to act seductively.”

Clearly, Scarlett doesn’t want the sex symbol label because, as she said before, this is something that doesn’t last. Her work, though, will – on the condition that it be top-quality, so she’s focusing on that.

Scarlett wants to prove to the world she’s more than a pretty face

2014 has been a major year for Scarlett, as Barbara also notes: she had her first baby and got married in secret to her fiancé, making sure that word of it didn’t get out until months later. She’s already been burned once with this, when she made her marriage to Ryan Reynolds open to media scrutiny, and she’s determined to not make the same mistake twice.

She’s playing all her cards close to her vest now, choosing to make public only as few aspects from her personal life as possible. She won’t talk about her husband or how they manage to make it work, but she will say: her experience with motherhood so far has been nothing short of amazing.

Scarlett says she does “everything” with the baby, which probably means they don’t have a nanny and are hands-on parents. She’s also nursing and she proclaims this to be the best way to get back in top shape, which, by the way, she totally is.

Besides the happy developments in her personal life, Scarlett has also had tremendous success in her career this past year: she resumed her role as Black Widow in Marvel’s Avengers franchise, in the second “Captain America” film, she did more action with “Lucy,” and was showered with critical acclaim for her performance in the sci-fi thriller “Under the Skin.”

All this explains why she’s one of Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014.
