Actress shoots down rumors of animosity on “Iron Man 2” set

It’s common knowledge by now that, whenever two equally famous actresses are cast together in the same movie, rumors of catfights and jealousy fits are bound to emerge. The situation was no different with “Iron Man 2,” on the set of which Scarlett Johansson reportedly fought with Gwyneth Paltrow whenever she could, and vice versa. The truth of the matter, Johansson tells IO9, is that, while they’re not exactly friends, there is no animosity between them either.

Again, this is not necessarily because they are close friends or do things girls usually do, Scarlett explains, but rather because Paltrow is so absorbed by her family that she rarely gets to notice anything else going on the set when the cameras are not rolling. Moreover, the actress explains, Gwyneth is probably not even aware of the rumors circulating in the media and, if she were, chances are she would still not care about them. In other words, Paltrow lives completely torn from the outside world, Scarlett says.

“Nothing could be further from the truth. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about working with her. Well, she’s very much out of the loop. She’s very much out of the loop, you know – she’s got a wonderful family whom she spends a lot of time with. So for her, she’s like, ‘What’s going on? What?’ And of course Jon [Favreau] who’s on his Twitter, he’s crazy about any kind of news about anything. He’s like ‘You haven’t heard? You haven’t heard?’ And he comes onto set and we’re both like, ‘Oh god.’ Every time I would say to Gwyneth, ‘Oh yeah, that was on the seventh,’ and she’d say, ‘Are you sure it wasn’t on the sixth?’ He’d [Favreau] yell, ‘what? It’s a cat fight! It’s breaking out’.” Johansson explains for the aforementioned e-zine.

All rumors and jokes aside, Scarlett has nothing but good things to say about working with Gwyneth, who is a truly dedicated actress who does things by the book and is, because of this, beyond reproach. That’s why the latest addition to the “Iron Man” franchise is certain that fans will not overlook her character when the second film comes out, no matter what rumors might say.

Asked whether Paltrow snubbed this year’s Comic-Con because all attention would be diverted to Johansson and she would not get her fair share in the spotlight, Scarlett has this to say: “Believe me, she’s worthy of plenty of attention and I know that that fans love her and they are going to love to see her in this movie, because her character kind of comes into her own. I know she would love to be here as well, but she’s with her family.”
