800x600 screen resolutions are a dying breed. More and more computer users are abandoning the 800x600 pixels resolution for their displays and moving to superior and more "spacious" screen properties. While this tendency follows the natural evolution of monitors, it also has a direct impact on the Internet.

"Screen resolution 800 x 600 pixels has significantly decreased since June 2006. More and more Internet users choose for screen resolution 1024 x 768 or higher. The finding has important implications for web site designers because most web sites are designed for a screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels," revealed OneStat, web analytics provider.

Moving on to percentages, OneStat stated that the most popular screen resolution at this time is 1024 x 768. In fact, no less than 55.34% out of a pool of 2 million users have set their displays at 1024 x 768. This is a very valuable piece of information for web designers that need to optimize their sites according to the most widely used screen resolution in order to deliver the best effect for the users.

1280 x 1024 is also extremely popular, being embraced by 17.23% of Internet users. 1280 x 800 comes in the third place with 8.23% while 800 x 600 is the forth used resolution with just 8.18% of visitors keeping their monitors on this setting.

"The screen resolution 1280 x 1024 has reached an all time high of 17.23 percent. Users with monitors set to the most common resolution 800 x 600 for web sites have an approximate 8.18 percent global usage share. Almost 10 months ago this percentage was 12.04 percent," OneStat added.
