14 DAY TRIAL // Canonical's Adam Conrad has announced, the formal end of life dates for Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) server, Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) desktop and Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot).
Ubuntu LTS releases are supported for a period of five years and Ubuntu 8.04 Server (Hardy Heron) was released April 24, 2008. This means that its time is almost up and the security and critical fixes will be suspended on Thursday, May 9.
All Ubuntu Security Notices will no longer include information about this operating system. Canonical has advised all users to upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin). The direct upgrade is not possible, but it can be done via Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) server.
Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) desktop was released back in 2010, on May 29. The support period for the LTS desktop version was three years. It will come to an end on May 9. Users have been advised to upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin). This version still benefits from security updates and select high-impact bug fixes.
Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) is a simple release and it was made available on October 13, 2011. The support period for the normal versions of Ubuntu is 18 months. All updates will be discontinued Ubuntu 11.10 on May 9.
Ubuntu Security Notices will no longer include information or updated packages for Ubuntu 11.10. The users have been advised to upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04, through the normal process.
