Be ready for some horrifying gameplay

Brash Entertainment, a publisher specialized in publishing movie-related games, has said that Zombie, the studio behind recruitment tool and free shooter America's Army, will be the developer of an upcoming game built around the Saw movies.

The series currently features 4 movies. Saw is based around the idea of people being snatched from their normal lives and put into frightening and eventually gory situations where they must make a big sacrifice in order to try and obtain their freedom. Doing so should make them better persons. Writers Leigh Whannell and James Wan, responsible for the scripts of the first three Saw movies, have been brought to work on the script for the game. On Wan's blog, they said that they were really excited about the opportunity to create another Saw script, although they bowed out of writing screenplays for the series after Saw III.

"We have no idea how that is going to apply to a computer game format, considering that most games are generally pretty simple in their plotting. Maybe it's a good thing that Leigh and I are naive to the video game world and that we're writing it like it's a movie!" - Wan said. Both writers promise a lot of plot twists and "I-am-your-father moments" along the game. Another interesting statement is that they are treating the game as it were a new Saw movie, which clearly indicates that the player won't just relieve adventures from the movies, but rather he will make his own adventure in the world featured in the movies. Whether the game will put the player in the shoes of the good guys going after the criminal or in the shoes of the torture-inclined villain has not been stated yet.

Game details are rather scarce at this point. The developer has licensed the Unreal III engine and that promises a great looking game, but gameplay is still a closely guarded secret. With the game slated for a fall 2009 release, there's still plenty of time for further details to emerge.
