Lionsgate wants a new “Saw” movie: it might be a reboot or the eighth installment

The seventh and final installment in the “Saw” franchise, “Saw 3D,” came out in 2010, finally offering some closure to loyal fans and closing the book on a franchise that had already overstayed its welcome. As it turns out, this wasn’t really the end.

Bloody Disgusting got wind that Lionsgate was “actively” looking into developing an eighth installment, one that would bring back the Jigsaw killer but also breathe new life into the stale franchise by taking it into a different direction.

Nothing is set in stone right now but, really, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see what this is all about: money. For years, Lionsgate had a certified winner coming out on Halloween and, for years, it even managed to please the critics with the “Saw” movies. Towards the end, critics thrashed the franchise but no one can fault them with that because everyone involved was merely going through the motions at that point.

“After a three year break, Lionsgate is back to their torturous ways and seeking a new direction for the franchise that took over Halloween for nearly a decade. Since its exit, Paranormal Activity has become the reigning champion of the month of October (sans this year),” BD says.

Lionsgate wants back in the spotlight with a “Saw” movie, which is why it’s now taking its time with planning it. They could either do a reboot or continue with “Saw 8,” but take the franchise into a different direction.

My review of “Saw 3D” is also available. As a fan, I was upset by how bad the franchise had gotten towards the end.
