A lifeboat that can save your computer

Today's promo from MacUpdate is about saving your data, your time, and sometimes even your job. You got it: I am talking about a backup utility! Its name is Lifeboat, the last version is 1.3.2 and comes as a Universal Binary file that can run without any special problems on Intel and PowerPC-based Macs. For the next 21 hours, you will be able to buy this program for half its price. This means that from a retail price of 30$, Lifeboat is available today for only 14.99$, but is it really worth it? Let's check this program's main features now, shall we?

Lifeboat is designed to make the backup process as easy as possible, bringing the Mac's simplicity and reliability to the back up tasks. Creating a backup task is as easy as one-two-three, and this is exactly the way to do it, because the backup tasks are created in a 3-step process. First, you have to choose the destination location, then the items to backup, and the last thing to take care of is the time of the backup. Easy, isn't it?

The file selection is eased by the ability to create a Smart Group that automatically finds a set of files, by using a set of rules that you can define, similar to Finder's Smart Folders feature. The destinations that can be used for backing up your files include folders on your local machine or external drives, CD or DVD discs, a shared folder on a Windows computer or even your .Mac account. New destinations are added regularly, so expect to get the ability to use Blu-Ray discs and whatever new hardware you may have as soon as a new version of the program pops up!

At last, I should tell you about the fully functional demo version available. I wouldn't buy a program without checking it out first, not even when I get a 50% price cut, and if you want to try Lifeboat, you will face an 800 files limit per backup task and a maximum of 3 tasks until you register. These being said, I advise you to hurry up, because time is ticking away...
