Savannah Guthrie announced her engagement to communications strategist Mike Feldman on The Today Show in May 2013, so it was only fitting for her to use the same platform to break a couple of more surprising news to her supporters: she was married last weekend and she is pregnant.

The 42-year-old Today co-anchor has been keeping her romance to Feldman close to her vest and, as she explained hours ago on the show, she wanted her wedding day to be a truly special moment for her, Mike, and their families and friends.

So, they did their best to keep the details of the wedding under wraps and, last weekend, headed out to the desert, at a location outside her hometown of Tucson, Arizona, with a handful of people close to both, and tied the knot.

At the ceremony, during a speech held by the newlyweds, after the music from the NBC News Special Report segment played, Savannah took the microphone and broke the news that she and Mike would be soon becoming parents.

Footage from the wedding when they made the announcement, as well as from the party is included in the video report below. Above is a pic Guthrie posted to her Twitter with the caption “We did!,” which pretty much says it all.

“We are so excited, overjoyed and feel so blessed,” she told her fellow Today anchors. “It's funny, 'cause we set the wedding date, I bought my dress, and then I found out. So I've been doing a little praying that I would fit in it, and it all worked out.”

“I feel great, and actually I'm so happy to tell the world. Because I can't suck in this gut anymore,” she continued.

She’s also relieved to be finally addressing rumors and comments coming from The Today viewers, who have been telling her for weeks that she looked “a little pregnant.”

Savannah says that her and Mike’s baby will be born in late summer, adding that they’re absolutely buzzing with happiness, both because of the wedding and at the prospect of becoming parents so soon.

When she announced the engagement last May, Guthrie didn’t as much as hint at a possible wedding date, so chances are the plan was from the start to keep it a secret to ensure that their special moment isn’t ruined by too much attention from the paparazzi. This is becoming standard practice with celebrities looking to keep out of the first pages of the tabloids and to exercise some control over their private life.
