With Ford’s Alan Mulally officially denying any potential switch to Microsoft, all bets are now on Satya Nadella, the man responsible for Microsoft’s cloud business, for replacing Steve Ballmer at the helm of the company.

Cowen analyst Gregg Moskowitz was quoted as saying by MSN that Satya Nadella is the most likely and qualified candidate to succeed Ballmer now that Mulally has refused the job, so the other internal candidates aren’t exactly the best choices to lead such a large company.

“Many investors, and ourselves included, had at one time seen Mr. Mulally as Microsoft's best chance of getting a transformational CEO who could potentially have pushed through tough yet necessary changes at the firm,” he said.

Beside Alan Mulally, Microsoft was also believed to discuss with Satya Nadella, Tony Bates, Kevin Turner and Stephen Elop, who’s the former Nokia CEO that’ll soon join the software giant as part of the acquisition.
