Electronic Arts, the big name behind the Need for Speed racing series, has confirmed its presence in four US Apple Stores. The initiative includes a rare, behind-the-scenes discussion with EA Game Producers about development for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch.

Attendees are promised insight on “the amazing features of iPhone and iPod touch,” but also a hands-on experience with EA's most exciting games currently available for the two platforms. Obviously, NFS: Undercover will be specifically emphasized.

“Meet EA Producers at an Apple Store near you,” goes EA's announcement. “Hear about game development, get an insider's look at upcoming games for the iPhone and iPod touch, and enjoy a pre-release sneak-peek at Need For Speed: Undercover!” The four respective stores, as well as the hours during which EA's producers will be doing the showcasing are listed below:

Sat, Dec 6th 3:00 pm - Apple Store, SoHo, New York City, NY Sat, Dec 13th 2:00 pm - Apple Store, 3rd St. Promenade, Santa Monica, CA Sat, Dec 14th 2:00 pm - Apple Store, San Francisco, CA Sat, Dec 20th 2:00 pm - Apple Store, North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL

Softpedia has previously reported that December 2008 will have owners of an iPhone or iPod touch racing undercover, steering, accelerating and breaking with the accelerometer, or charging with the touchscreen controls.

Posting the first screenshots of NFS: Undercover for iPhone, NFS-Planet pinned the title as “quite promising.” On the gameplay side, the iPhone version of NFS: Undercover is said to deliver a total of 30 licensed cars, including the Porsche Cayman S, Lamborghini Gallardo, Ford Mustang and Lotus Elise, according to the source.

Moreover, players will be able to pimp out and tune up their rides, with options like suspension, tires and Body Paint being available in the game. Lastly, EA is pushing the limit of the racing genre on mobile platforms with 8 race modes, including Highway Battle, Sprint and Cop Takeout.
