Comedienne Joan Rivers passed away last month and since then, people have expressed regret over her demise. But the cast of SNL have decided to give her a comedic tribute, fitting to her entire career, that would double up as a hilarious skit on the show.

The actress chosen to portray Rivers was Sarah Silverman and she did a great job capturing Joan's small speech patterns and gestures. She also nailed down the husky voice, a trademark of the late comedienne.

The material was also good, depicting Joan poking fun at some other dead celebrities in heaven. With her were Richard Pryor, Eva Gardner, Freddie Mercury (played by Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine) and Benjamin Franklin.

Joan, played by Silverman, takes a poke at everyone there, and for a short moment, we saw Joan cracking jokes again and we felt better inside.

Fans appreciated this form of remembering the comedic trailblazer and noticed that the timing was spot on. Airing this material too soon after the funeral could have been an emotional gamble, but at the moment, most have gotten used to the idea of Joan's passing and that's why they were not offended.

Alternatively, Joan's other show on TV, Fashion Police, is going to go on without her, after it was initially rumored that it was going to close down. Melissa Rivers, Joan's daughter, who also works on the show as a producer, has given her blessing for the series to continue without her late mother.
