Following the resignation and formal apology of ex-MSNBC host Martin Bashir, Sarah Palin has declared that she is now ready to put the whole incident behind her. She said on Thursday (Dec. 5) that she would “move on.”

"My role was to accept his apology and be humble enough to accept it and move on," Palin is quoted as saying, but that doesn't mean that TV presenter Martin Bashir didn't have to suffer the full extent of his small outburst on air when he lashed out at the former Alaskan governor.

After issuing a formal apology, he was forced to resign his position at MSNBC on Wednesday (Dec. 4), despite taking some time off right after the incident in November.

At the time, Bashir refered to Sarah Palin as “a world class idiot” and he also suggested that she should be forced eat excrement as a means of punishment inflicted upon unruly slaves.

Palin also mentions in her statement on the issue that she is happy with the turn of events. She goes on to criticize what she calls the “lamestream media” but adds that it's “refreshing to see that many in the media did come out and say, 'Look, our standards have got to be higher than this.' Those with that platform, with a microphone, a camera in their face, they have to have some more responsibility taken.”

The former Alaskan governor admits that five or six years ago she might have been “personally hurt” but now sees this kind of attacks as part of the job so she feels she's become “kind of calloused.”

For Bashir, this wasn't the first time he has had to issue apologies for his statements, nor was it the first time it cost him his job. Back in July, when he was working with ABC, he made some unfortunate comments when addressing the Asian American Journalists convention in Chicago by comparing a speech with his colleague's dress.
